Recommended for Transmissions, Power Steering, Hydraulics
AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Full Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (Product Code: ATF) is engineered to outperform conventional automatic transmission fluids and exceed the performance requirements of most North American, European and Asian vehicles. This sophisticated formulation provides outstanding performance and protection in the severe operating conditions of today’s most advanced transmission designs.
Most drivers are unaware that transmissions commonly operate under severe service and require shorter fluid drain intervals – transmissions are subjected to extensive idling, frequent short trips, cold-temperature driving, sustained hot-weather driving or trailer towing. Elevated temperatures cause fluids to break down, allowing damaging metal-to-metal contact and the formation of sludge and deposits. The problem is worse in modern transmissions with more gears, clutch packs and narrow oil passages that require clean, high-quality fluid to achieve maximum performance and life.
AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid is specifically formulated to withstand the rigors of heavy towing, elevated temperatures and challenging terrain. It remains fluid in sub-zero temperatures and provides reserve protection during heavy use and even abuse. Drivers can count on AMSOIL Signature Series ATF to provide protection beyond conventional fluids.
AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid is recommended for transmissions, power steering, hydraulics and other applications requiring Ford MERCON and MERCON V, GM DEXRON II and III, Chrysler ATF+4 (MOPAR) specifications and more. Increasing Demands Are Being Placed on Transmission Fluids
Automatic transmissions have become increasingly complex as vehicle manufacturers strive to improve efficiency while satisfying consumer demands. Today’s automatic transmissions are built to smaller design specifications than yesterday’s transmissions. Shorter automobile frames and innovative drive train designs have called for transmissions to be scaled down and, at the same time, have tighter tolerances and higher energy densities than ever before. These design changes have caused transmissions to generate more heat, which has placed a demand on transmission fluids past anything the industry has seen before.
The combination of higher operating temperatures and reduced oil volumes calls for fluids that can not only maintain performance at higher temperatures, but must also meet the longer service life that original equipment manufacturers are recommending. Traditional automatic transmission fluids are unable to meet these extreme requirements and new fluids have emerged with each new advancement in transmission engineering. AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Full Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid is formulated with the highest-quality synthetic fluids and additives and exceeds the most stringent industry standards.
Mechanics Say a Quality ATF is the Best Defense Against Automatic Transmission Breakdown
Of all the stresses that ATF encounters, heat is the most destructive. Most automatic transmission failures are caused by heat. Transmission life expectancy is directly related to how well the fluid is able to disperse heat and maintain temperatures within normal operating ranges. When conventional petroleum fluids are subjected to high heat and heavy loads, they break down to form sludge and varnish. Over time, these varnishes and lack of lubrication can cause seals to harden, leaks to occur, plates to slip and, finally, seals and clutches to burn out when the oil forms carbon. Mechanics say a quality ATF is the best defense against automatic transmission breakdown (a costly repair).
Protects Hot Transmissions, Faster Cold-Weather Starts, Improved Fuel Efficiency
AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF provides automatic transmissions with excellent lubricating protection and better performance over a wider temperature range than conventional automatic transmission fluids. Hot temperatures are no excuse for poor reliability. Naturally heat resistant and heavily fortified with anti-oxidants, AMSOIL Signature Series ATF exceeds the most demanding oxidation requirements. It delivers outstanding protection against sludge and varnish deposits that clog narrow oil passages and contribute to clutch glazing. Transmissions can operate hotter and longer with AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic ATF than with conventional automatic transmission fluids.
Not only does AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF cool and protect hot-running transmissions far better than conventional fluids, but it also remains fluid down to -63° F. The efficiency of an automatic transmission is directly affected by the viscosity of the transmission fluid. Cold, thick automatic transmission fluid lengthens shift times and reduces fuel economy. AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic ATF is wax-free and delivers extraordinary cold-flow properties, exceeding the the cold-temperature fluidity required by current automatic transmission fluid specifications. That means that while some fluids barely circulate in a cold transmission, AMSOIL ATF is on the job, providing outstanding lubrication and protection, easier cold-weather starts, faster warm-ups, smoother shifting and improved fuel efficiency.
Outstanding Wear Protection
Varying speeds and loads causes torque multiplication and extreme stress on gears and bearings. To prevent wear damage consistent with low-quality transmission fluids and ruptured fluid film, AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF is formulated with high film strength for shear stability and premium anti-wear/extreme-pressure additives that develops a boundary layer of protection between metal surfaces. AMSOIL Signature Series ATF protects transmissions during severe-duty service.
Ensures Consistent, Smooth Clutch Engagement and No Hard Shifting
Today’s transmissions are smaller and must withstand higher horsepower and torque while delivering smoother shifts, all with longer fluid life recommendations. AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF is formulated with friction modifier additives that deliver outstanding clutch-holding capacity, torque-transfer ability and anti-shudder properties to prevent slipping torque converter clutches. AMSOIL Signature Series ATF ensures consistent, smooth clutch engagement with no hard shifting throughout the life of the fluid.
Proven in 100,000-mile, Severe-Service Taxi Fleet Field Trial
To demonstrate its effectiveness in severe service, AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF was installed in vehicles owned by a Las Vegas cab company. The vehicles routinely encountered demanding stop-and-go driving loaded with passengers and cargo, while the desert environment presented extremely hot ambient temperatures, placing enormous strain on the fluid. Following 100,000 miles, a transmission was selected for analysis.
The Aluminum Beaker Oxidation Test (ABOT) is one industry-accepted method used to determine a transmission fluid’s oxidation resistance, which is a good indicator of its service life. Testing by an independent, third-party lab reveals that after 100,000 miles in severe service, AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF resisted oxidation longer than required for new fluid to meet the Chrysler ATF+4 specification (see graph).
Internal components, including the valve body and clutch plates (see photos), were virtually free of damaging sludge, deposits and wear, confirming the lubricant’s high level of protection for severe-service applications.
After 100,000 miles in severe service, fluid analysis revealed AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF contained 41 percent of its original oxidation inhibitors, proving its long-lasting resistance to thermal breakdown. Analysis also reveals that after 100,000 miles in severe service, AMSOIL Synthetic ATF provides nearly identical friction properties as new fluid for smooth, reliable shifts.
In the industry-standard FZG Gear Wear Test, AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF that had been used for 100,000 severe-service miles achieved a “Pass” at stage 12 – the highest stage. The results exceeded the Ford MERCON V and Chrysler ATF+4 specifications for new fluid, demonstrating the lubricant’s long-lasting wear protection.
Multi-Vehicle Fluid Simplifies Inventories, Prevents Misapplications
AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF is a multi-functional fluid that greatly reduces the need for specialized fluid inventories and the possibilities of misapplication, eliminating confusion and simplifying inventory requirements. It is recommended for a wide range of transmissions, hydraulics, power steering and other applications.
AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF is formulated with the highest-quality synthetic fluids and additives. It is fully fortified:
- Anti-wear/extreme-pressure agents to extend gear life
- Durable friction modifiers prevent shudder

Eliminates the Need for Automatic Transmission Additives
AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF eliminates the need for costly and suspect “one-treatment-covers-all” ATF additives. It is properly formulated under the strictest quality control procedures to provide superior lubrication performance (prevent slipping, hesitation, hard shifting and seal leaks in transmissions) and aftermarket ATF additives are not required. In fact, aftermarket automatic transmission additives could upset the chemical balance of the AMSOIL Signature Series ATF and void the AMSOIL warranty.
AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF provides an extra margin of protection, especially during heavy use and even during abuse. Most drivers are unaware that transmissions commonly operate under severe service and require shorter fluid drain intervals – transmissions are subjected to extensive idling, frequent short trips, cold-temperature driving, sustained hot-weather driving or trailer towing. Drivers can count on AMSOIL Signature Series ATF to provide protection beyond conventional fluids.
Normal Service: Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s normal-service drain interval.
Severe Service: Double the vehicle manufacturer’s severe-service drain interval.
Change at the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended drain interval outside U.S. and Canada.

Recommendation for Transmission Fluid and Filter Change
Many quick lube oil change companies are using transmission flush machines to change the automatic transmission fluid. Flush machines do not address the need for cleaning the sediment in the transmission pan, cleaning the magnet inside the transmission pan, or changing the transmission oil filter. By taking the transmission pan off, sediment in the pan as well as the magnet can be cleaned, and the fluid filter can be changed. Manufacturers recommend a filter change with the oil change, and recommend against the use of flushing machines due to possible fluid contamination from pan sediment. Follow AMSOIL’s step-by-step procedures for changing transmission fluid and filter:
