Premium Gas Treatment Solves Multiple Fuel Problems in Small Engines: Ethanol in Gas, Water in Gas, and Dirty Gasoline
Use in All 2- and- 4-Stroke Gasoline Small Engines and Powersports Equipment
AMSOIL Quickshot (Product Code: AQS) is an award-winning, proven gasoline treatment for motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, boats, personal watercraft, lawn equipment, snowblowers and other 2-stroke and 4-stroke gasoline small engines. This premium fuel additive thoroughly cleans and restores peak performance in small engine and power sports equipment fuel systems. AMSOIL Quickshot small engine gasoline treatment effectively solves multiple fuel problems: ethanol in gas, water in gas, and dirty gasoline. It also stabilizes gasoline between uses and during short-term storage periods.
Ethanol in Gas: AMSOIL Quickshot was tested in fuel containing 10 percent ethanol, also known as E-10 fuel. Controlled plugging of injectors showed a 70% flow improvement, while oxidation stability improved 44% over untreated fuel.
Water in Gas: Due to EPA mandates, the use of ethanol gasoline is on the rise and so are ethanol fuel problems in small engines. Ethanol absorbs water, which creates havoc in the fuel system and can damage engines. AMSOIL Quickshot disperses and safely removes water from gas through the combustion process.
Dirty Gas: AMSOIL Quickshot softens and carries away deposits formed from dirty gasoline, cleaning the fuel system and restoring peak performance.

Ethanol Fuel Problems
Ethanol in fuel has a tendency to absorb water. This ethanol and water mixture becomes heavier than gas and separates from the gasoline, sinking to the bottom of the gas tank (see photo below), where it quickly degrades and creates gum, varnish and other insoluble debris that can plug fuel flow passages. When the correct amount of fuel cannot flow to the engine, equipment becomes difficult to start and performance becomes unstable. The ethanol water mixture does not burn well – when this ethanol rich mixture is pulled into the engine, it creates a lean burn situation that increases combustion chamber temperatures significantly, which can lead to severe engine damage. AMSOIL Quickshot small engine fuel additive is designed to keep water dispersed throughout the fuel tank, moving it out as a normal part of operation and decreasing the chance of ethanol separation from the gasoline.
Ethanol and Water Phase Separation
Small Engines and Ethanol
Ethanol contains less energy per gallon compared to gasoline. While may new passenger vehicles have computer systems that sense and correct for high ethanol content, small engines and most power sports equipment are not programmed to detect this and a lean burn situation results. In addition, small engines and power sports equipment are typically used on an intermittent basis, so fuel sits in the tank, lines, carburetors and injectors for extended periods between uses. During this time, it absorbs water, degrades and causes deposit formation. This results in starting and performance issues. AMSOIL Quickshot gasoline treatment restores peak performance in small engine and power sports equipment fuel systems.
Water in Gasoline
It is inevitable that water will find its way into gas tanks through condensation in tanks open to the atmosphere, gas pumps and other environmental conditions. If left untreated, water in gasoline will cause a myriad of starting, performance and corrosion problems. By keeping water dispersed in tiny molecules, AMSOIL Quickshot safely moves the water out of the tank through the combustion chamber where it vaporizes and goes unnoticed by equipment operators, protecting engines against damaging corrosion.
Dirty gasoline presents a major maintenance issue in small engine and power sports equipment fuel systems. Contaminated fuel can form varnish, gum and insoluble debris that clog carburetors, fuel injectors and fuel filters. Carbon buildup can form on the tops of pistons that leads to pre-ignition, rough idling and poor throttle response. Gasoline problems are only expected to intensify in the coming years as the ethanol content in pump gasoline continues to increase.
Buildup inside injectors and carburetors is common and needs to be cleaned out on a continued basis to maintain peak performance. Although all gasoline sold in the U.S. is formulated with a lowest additive concentration (LAC) level of detergent additives, these detergent levels are not enough to prevent deposits from building up on critical fuel system components. AMSOIL Quickshot small engine fuel additive contains a unique chemistry that quickly softens and carries away deposits and buildups in fuel systems, injectors and carburetors, while also cleaning hard-to-remove deposits on piston tops, spark plugs and other combustion chamber parts.
A Proven Gas Treatment for Small Engines
AMSOIL Quickshot was tested in fuel containing 10 percent ethanol, known as E-10, to measure its ability to clean and neutralize the damaging effects of ethanol water separation in pump fuel. In modified ASTM D-6421 testing, controlled plugging of injectors showed a 70% flow improvement with AMSOIL Quickshot treated fuel. In ASTM D-525 testing, oxidation stability of fuel treated with AMSOIL Quickshot improved 44% over untreated fuel.
During field tests, researchers assembled a number of different types of poorly running equipment. The equipment problems included rough idling, cycling difficulty, hesitation, failure to run and poor top-end performance. It was suspected that all of the issues were caused by degraded fuel and carburetor-fuel injection problems. After burning one-half tank of fuel treated with AMSOIL Quickshot, the equipment that was difficult to start and keep running began running efficiently. In extremely dirty equipment, the exhaust smoke turned black as the engine and fuel system cleaned up. AMSOIL Quickshot allowed for easy starts and peak performance after extended non-use periods in snow blowers, snowmobiles, ice augers, lawn mowers, outboard motors, weed wackers, motorcycles and generators.
AMSOIL Quickshot is designed to stabilize gas between uses and during short-term periods of storage. However, for extended or seasonal storage, AMSOIL Gasoline Stabilizer is recommended.
AMSOIL Quickshot helps equipment run more efficiently, leading to reduced fuel consumption, reduced emissions, longer equipment life and less fuel-related breakdowns and maintenance requiring solvent-based cleanups.
AMSOIL Quickshot (AQS) fuel additive is recommended for use in all 2-stroke and 4-stroke gasoline engines. Use in motorcycle, snowmobile, boat, PWC (personal watercraft), ATV, garden equipment (weed trimmer, edger, tiller, leaf blower), lawn mower, snow blower, chain saw, generator, farm and construction equipment.
Note: Although AMSOIL Quickshot can be used in any gasoline engine, AMSOIL P.i. Performance Improver is a far better choice for gasoline engines in passenger cars and trucks because it is more convenient and economical. While AMSOIL P.i. Performance Improver can be used in 4-stroke small engines and power sports equipment, it does not provide fuel stabilization, which is one of the main benefits of AMSOIL Quickshot for small engines. Additionally, it can be difficult to pour in the correct amount of product. There are also no overtreatment issues with ASMOIL Quickshot in small engines.
Gas Treatment Rate
AMSOIL Quickshot small engine gasoline treatment is designed for an initial clean-up dose of 8 ounces per 6 gallons of gasoline, followed by 8 ounces per 12 gallons thereafter. For best results, treat every tank of gas with AMSOIL Quickshot to prevent breakdown of both straight-grade gasoline and ethanol gasoline. It comes in a convenient 8-ounce clear bottle with graduations on the side to ensure correct dosages.
One of the unique features of AMSOIL Quickshot is that overtreatment does not have any negative consequences. In fact, the rate of cleanup can be slightly accelerated by increasing the dosage.
