The full synthetic formulation of AMSOIL Power Steering Fluid (Product Code: PSF) reduces friction for cooler, quieter operation and to extend the life of power steering systems. AMSOIL Power Steering Fluid is a multi-vehicle fluid that meets a wide range of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) requirements, meeting or exceeding the requirements for vehicles manufactured by AMC, Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Ford, GM, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Navistar, Nissan, Porsche, Saab, Subaru, Toyota, Volvo and VW. (Please see Product Details below for a complete list of specifications.)
AMSOIL Synthetic Power Steering Fluid resists degradation better than petroleum fluids. It is formulated with a high viscosity index (VI), the most important characteristic of a lubricant. AMSOIL Synthetic Power Steering Fluid provides excellent wear protection; its low pour point ensures immediate lubrication during cold-weather starts, yet it resists thermal breakdown and maintains maximum protection in high temperatures.

Why Change Power Steering Fluid
Power steering fluid is often neglected by motorists until a problem arises. Power steering fluid must combat contaminants and undergo temperature extremes while, at the same time, fulfill its role as a hydraulic fluid. Like any other lubricant, power steering fluid accumulates wear material and other debris over time, and therefore should be changed at prescribed intervals. Due to its synthetic formulation, AMSOIL Power Steering Fluid resists degradation better than petroleum power steering fluids. AMSOIL Synthetic Power Steering Fluid’s durable synthetic formulation is designed to provide long, trouble-free service in most domestic and foreign passenger cars and light trucks.
How Power Steering Works
Most power steering systems use a belt-driven pump to provide hydraulic pressure to the system. The pump, usually a rotary vane pump, is driven by the vehicle’s engine. As the speed of the engine increases, the pressure in the hydraulic fluid also increases, necessitating the incorporation of a relief valve to allow excess pressure to be bled away.
When the power steering is not being used (driving in a straight line), twin hydraulic lines provide equal pressure to both sides of the steering wheel gear. When torque is applied to the steering wheel, the hydraulic lines provide unequal pressures, providing assistance in turning the wheels in the intended direction. Other modern hydraulic power steering systems include an electronic pressure valve which can reduce the hydraulic pressure of the power steering lines as the vehicle’s speed increases. This is known as variable assist power steering.
Provides Excellent Wear Protection for Long Component Life and Reliable Performance
AMSOIL Power Steering Fluid’s synthetic formulation provides excellent lubricity and reduced friction, resulting in cooler operating temperatures and quieter operation. Power steering pump components and hoses receive maximum protection against wear and stress for long life and reliable performance.
Performs Better Than Conventional Power Steering Fluids
AMSOIL Synthetic Power Steering Fluid is formulated with a high viscosity index, which means better performance and wear protection at both low and high temperatures.
In cold weather, conventional petroleum power steering fluid can thicken enough to prevent adequate fluid flow, resulting in power steering pump whine and poor operation. AMSOIL Power Steering Fluid is formulated with a low pour point to ensure excellent fluidity in cold temperatures, resulting in quiet operation and reliable wear protection. And, at elevated operating temperatures, AMSOIL Synthetic Power Steering Fluid resists thermal breakdown better than conventional products to help components remain clean and last long.

Change Power Steering Fluid Using a Fluid Extraction Pump
To aid in the removal of used fluids when servicing vehicles, AMSOIL offers a fluid extraction pump. The AMSOIL Fluid Extraction Pump (G2576-EA) features a high-quality, heavy-duty barrel and premium Viton suction gaskets. Viton gaskets are more resilient and resistant to solvents than natural rubber or nitrile gaskets, ensuring better suction and longer life. This high-quality pump can be used to remove old power steering fluid when replacing with AMSOIL Synthetic Power Steering Fluid. It can also be used to remove other fluids such as engine oil, drivetrain lubricants and engine coolant.
